Nobel Prize Museum

At the Nobel Prize Museum you will learn a lot about Alfred Nobel, the Nobel Prize and many of the discoveries and people who have received the Nobel Prize through the years. You’ll find the museum right on the central square Stortorget in the Old Town (Gamla stan). The historic building was originally a stock exchange, when it was built in the 18th century. The museum occupies the first floor, and the second floor is occupied by the Swedish Academy, the academy that among others chooses the laureates for the annual Nobel Prize in Literature.

The museum features extensive information about all Nobel Prize winners in various categories, including Peace, Literature, Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, and Economic Sciences. Visitors can engage with interactive exhibits that delve into the lives and achievements of Nobel laureates, providing a deeper understanding of their contributions to society.

Films, interviews, and multimedia presentations provide dynamic and engaging content about the history of the Nobel Prize and its impact on the world. The museum dedicates sections to Alfred Nobel, the founder of the Nobel Prize. It explores his life, inventions, and the establishment of the Nobel Prize.

Although the museum is rather small compared to other museums it’s easy to get lost here for more than an hour or two. Bring your mobile phone (and remember to also bring your headphones) and use the audio guide available at their web page for an even more educating experience.

The Nobel Prize Museum offers a rich and engaging experience, highlighting the achievements of some of the most influential and inspiring individuals in modern history. It’s a must-visit for anyone interested in science, literature, peace, and the legacy of Alfred Nobel.
