Best time to visit Stockholm on a budget

The timing of your visit can significantly impact your travel budget. The summer months June, July, and August, are Stockholm’s peak months. This is the period when Stockholm is most active, many of the popular festivals are scheduled during this period and this is also the period when Stockholm has the most tourists. Naturally this will also be the most expensive time to visit Stockholm. Here’s a breakdown of two other alternatives:

  • Stockholm’s off-peak season – late autumn (November) to early spring (March) – are ideal for budget travelers. During these months, both flights and accommodations are generally cheaper due to lower tourist demand. However, be mindful that prices can rise during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
  • The shoulder seasons spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) – offer a balance between cost and comfort. The weather is milder, and while prices may be higher than in winter (i.e. the off-peak season), they are still more affordable than during the peak summer months.
