Stockholm’s public transport system makes it easy to navigate the city without spending a fortune. Here’s how you can get around the city on a budget:
- Public transport
It is convenient to purchase an SL travelcard for unlimited travel on buses, trams, and the metro (T-bana). These travelcards are available for 24-hour, 72-hour, and 7-day periods. If you plan to use the public transport at least 4 times per day the travel cards will be a more economic choice. You can use the following web site to get suggestions on which type of travelcard is best for you: https://vilket-sl-kort.se/en/. Stockholm is a bike-friendly city with many dedicated cycling lanes. Renting a bike or simply walking are excellent ways to explore the city at your own pace without any transportation costs. For more inspiration read our guide on: Where to walk in Stockholm. - Public transport ferries
With an SL travelcard, you’ll be able to use the public transportation ferries without any additional cost, since these are included with the SL travelcard. Instead of buying a sightseeing boat ticket, hop on a public transport ferry to get some scenic views from the water without straining your budget. We recommend taking the SL ferry between Slussen and Lidingö/Dalénum as this route will pass some beautiful views from water, where you’ll see Djurgården and Nackan from a unique perspective. And you will also pass the Islands of Fjäderholmarna along this route. Note that there are also commercial ferries, but the SL travelcard does not apply for those rides.
