Here you can have some glögg (mulled wine) and gingerbread, shop for handmade candles, wooden toys, and local delicacies like sausages and cheeses.

Spruce branches line the paths, small fires burn in barrels, and the smell of warm waffles and mulled wine fills the air.

Herrängens Gård is an 18th-century farm in south Stockholm. It hosts a cozy Christmas market, usually for one weekend in late November. Many locals say it is one of the coziest markets in the area.

Stalls fill the yard around the main house and red barns. You can buy Christmas flowers and wreaths, pickled herring, smoked salmon, cheeses, and homemade saft (fruit cordial). It is a good place to stock up on holiday food.

There are many crafts too: knitted hats, jewelry, artwork, ceramics, children’s books, and even driftwood art. The mood is relaxed and friendly, like a small village fair. Many sellers are local makers and happy to chat. Sometimes prices are flexible.

Children can try fiskdamm (a simple fishing game) and meet Santa in his little “workshop” to hand over wish lists. A small café in the old house serves coffee and homemade treats in a festive setting.

What makes Herrängens special is the mix of history and community. Walking under the old trees with a cup of glögg, you feel part of the neighborhood. Visitors are welcome. Take the suburban train to Älvsjö, then a short bus ride or walk to the farm. It’s a gentle detour from the usual tourist route.

Tips for visitors

Stockholm’s Christmas markets run from late November until Christmas. Each market has its own schedule; some open only on weekends or on a few dates. Check days and hours before you go. Dress warmly with layers, a hat, gloves, and warm shoes. Many markets are outdoors and evenings can be very cold. Warm drinks like glögg and hot chocolate, plus waffles or pepparkakor, help you stay cozy.

The city is walkable and public transport is excellent, so you can visit more than one market in a day. For example, walk from Gamla Stan to Kungsträdgården, then take a tram or ferry to Skansen on Djurgården. For longer trips like Sigtuna or Taxinge, plan a half day or a full day.

Each market has its own character. If you can, try a mix of big and small, central and local. Whether you want handmade gifts, good food, or just the winter atmosphere, Stockholm’s Christmas markets offer a memorable visit. God jul (Merry Christmas) and happy exploring!
