Ellery Beach House

Ellery Beach House is a spa resort and a hotel on Lidingö island. Located in the far end of Lidingö island it is close enough for getting here in under an hour, but also a serene location and a great place for a peaceful escape from city life.

It’s one of our favorite spa’s for a city break. the location is excellent with Lidingö being far enough away from the city for it to feel you’re leaving the busy city life. Being in the inner archipelago and having the option to to soak in a pool, or to walk down to the sauna by the sea and have a cold plunge after the warm sauna gives you a varied experience.

Facilities and amenities

The beach club is the main attraction for the spa visitors with two outdoor pools, an indoor and an outdoor soaking pool, and several day beds by the pools. There is also an indoor fire room with daybeds, which can be cozy at night or during the colder season. There are two saunas, one larger sauna, close to the main building, with an adjacent shallow soaking pool, and another sauna down by the sea, overlooking the archipelago. The spa is an excellent place to relax, the water in the pool is warm and it’s relaxing to bring your drink into the pool and sip it while hanging out in the soothing water.

If you are up for some physical activities there are three outdoor padel courts, and a gym. The indoor gym has some machines and weights, and there is a small outdoor gym area.

They have several restaurants both for lunch, snacks and dinner, with both indoor and outdoor seating. The interior design of the hotel has chic retro style, inspired by the 50’s. It is however up to modern standards, and the hotel and spa opened in 2020. For the visitors who stay for the night, or choose to come early they have a delicious breakfast with a variety of food options. The weekends (Friday and Saturday) have a more party oriented audience and the beach club and restaurant turns into a club during these days. During daytime the place is still relaxing and calm, though. Whether you choose to stay for the night or use one of their day spa options, this is a relaxing getaway not far from the city.

The food

The restaurant is open both to overnight guests and to day-time visitors. On our last visit we had lunch and dinner in the restaurant on the upper floor, with views out toewards the sea. If you have the chance to stay over night, their breakfast is really good and worth the stay.

Getting there

By car (about 20 min): Head out of the city toward Lidingö and cross Lidingöbron. Keep right over the bridge and take the exit toward Bosön/Elfvik, then follow Norra Kungsvägen for about 9.4 km out to Elfviks udde. Signs point the rest of the way. With the Norra Länken tunnels it’s roughly 15 minutes from the city centre. There’s free parking on site, no permit or booking needed.

By public transport (about 35 min): Take the red metro line to Ropsten, then change to bus 204 and get off at the Elfvik stop. The metro plus bus together is about 35 minutes, and from the bus stop it’s a 7–8 minute walk following the signs to the hotel. The bus 204 only runs roughly hourly, so it’s worth checking the SL app for departure times before you set off.
