Stockholm is built on fourteen islands, with around 30,000 more scattered out into the Baltic. However long you’re staying, these day-by-day plans help you spend the time well. We’ve walked the routes ourselves, so you get realistic timings, the places we’d happily go back to, and room to slow down by the water.
How much time do you have?
- A few hours between flights: Stockholm layover itinerary – the Vasa Museum, lunch on Södermalm, the view from Monteliusvägen and a walk through Gamla Stan, with time to get back to Arlanda.
- One day: Stockholm one-day itinerary – Östermalm, Djurgården, Gamla Stan and City Hall, ending with an evening on Södermalm.
- Two days: Stockholm two-day itinerary – Gamla Stan, the Royal Palace and the Vasa Museum on day one; City Hall, Södermalm and Fotografiska on day two.
- Three days: Stockholm three-day itinerary – one area per day at a slower pace: Gamla Stan and the palace, Djurgården’s museums, then City Hall and the views from Södermalm.
- Four days: Four-day Stockholm itinerary – the best of the city in three days, then a boat out to Vaxholm.
